Flood Watch

The past few weeks in the papers and at work there has been talk about flooding in the Fraser Valley. There is talk about diverting traffic, emergency care, and people if the rivers would flood. I hadn't paid much attention to it until I saw the signs for a closed road on my street. I happen to be right by a river. It was a nuisance last year with the fishing, but otherwise I forget that I am by a river. The past two days though the road by my house has been closed to all traffic except local traffic. There were large digging machines on it both days. I finally asked the landlord tonight, he says they are raising the road by 2 feet in hopes of diverting the river. He said that we are 5 feet higher than other parts of the valley, and that we shouldn't have much to worry about. However, that I should have a back up place to go to in case.... Not only am I concerned, now I am thinking of what I need to do to get ready. What is critical and what can I leave behind? My beloved stamps are of up most concern, as well as my stash of paper!! I may be seeking refugee homes for them to go to. Let me know what you think. Any suggestions? And where can I get flood insurance???
