Soot Spots
This morning I was sitting in my living room having just gotten up. Sitting on the couch, trying to figure out what I was going to do for the few hours that are mine before going to my night shift tonight. I have a fireplace in here with a glass bi-fold doors that I keep closed. I could hear them rattling so I looked at them and suddenly something started to come through them. So I screamed! I thought it was a rodent of some sort, hence the scream. It instead took flight at the sound of my screams, which made me scream more. I finally realized it was a small soot covered duck in my living room, flapping for dear life, with no where to go. I finally calmed down and the duck settle down under a stool hiding, and no doubt recovering from it's own fright. I opened the sliding glass doors to the gorgeous day outside, but the duck was staying put, lest it's ears get accosted again by my screams. So I called upstairs to the landlord. (Since it was staying put and I don't want a duck roommate.) She said she would send him around with a broom. It seemed like forever, but he and his son arrived within minutes with a sheet and broom. I could hear the duck from under my desk, so that's where they located the duck. Scared it from it's hiding spot and out it flew through the open sliding door. Now, looking around I have about 5 soot covered spots on the walls from where the poor duck hit the walls trying to get away from me. I hope the duck can find a quiet spot to wash and recover today. I hope that no more creatures come visit me through the chimney. I hope that I can get that soot off my white walls!!
