Word of the year for Jill

Last year I read Ali Edwards posts on choosing a word of the year and I even chose one, mindful. I didn't really do anything with it though. It was a sort of difficult word to follow through on. The year went by without me consciously living out being mindful.

This year I choose JOY. I choose joy because I have the Wordsworth stamp. Just kidding. I choose joy because at the end of the day I can look through all of the not so nice stuff and still find at least one thing that brings me joy. The choosing of joy has been inspired by the Mars Hill Seattle pastor Mark Driscoll who was doing a series on The Rebel's Guide to Joy from the book of Philippians. I have downloaded some of the pod casts of the sermons and have been watching them.

2008- I choose Joy!

And there you have it....

I told you so!

You Don't Have a Boyfriend Because You are Too Shy

When a guy gets to know you, he finds a great catch
Problem is... you're too shy for most guys to get to know.
From meeting someone to dating, you usually have your guard up.
And while you're just holding back, it makes you seem like you've got something to hide.

Winter Wonderland

Was able to go to Impress in U-Village Seattle with my friend before I flew home to Colorado. (Thanks A- you know I love that place!) Saw this stamp and this paper and fell in love. It had to come home with me. Mostly I love this Autumn Leaves paper because it reminded me of the big giant snowflake in the SU mini catalog that ended in November. I love this tree stamp because it is so geometric and yet soft.

Stamped it in Soft Sky classic ink. Mounted the patterned paper on Soft Sky as well. Had some photo corner punched out from Cindy and used brads to keep them together. The brad idea was from my SU demo Sarah. The ribbon is from my lss. I decided not to put a sentiment on this card yet, as I am not sure yet who or what I will use it for.

My first Christmas tree...

Well, on my own and in my own place that is. Yes I have been living on my own for a while now, but this is the first year that I put up a tree. It is artificial. And I love it. Also, the new tree skirt includes my favourite thing- paisley!! :0 )

Caedmon - my nephew dog -

This is Caedmon. He is my sister's new puppy. I got to see him when I was home. He is adorable. He is a Weimeramer. I am totally in love with him. Hence more pictures of puppies on this blog. I am such a sucker for puppies. :) But especially ones that are related to me now.

There and back again

Got to go home to see my family for American Thanksgiving. It was so good. Enjoyed every moment of it. I got to see almost everyone that I wanted to. It was good to be with family.

TTC2

This is my card for Nancy and Cindy's Try This Challenge #2. This week's challenge was to use punches in a creative way.

I used 2 Stampin Up punches, Snow blossom for the star of my tree which I made from the Paper Piecing (retired) punch.

The ornament stamps are from Stampendous and free hand cut. Cardstock is Wild Wasabi and Whisper White from SU, and Bazzill brown of some sort.

Patterned Paper is Basic Grey- Blitzen (I think, off the top of my head).
Direct to paper ink- Van Dyke Brown ink pad. Used stickles for the star to sparkle atop my tree.

Christmas card contest entries

Sarah my SU demo who is uber-talented had a card contest and she just posted the winner. The winning card is stunning.

These were my entries into her contest. I made them with my friend Cindy a few weeks ago in the midst of my car breaking down crisis. At least we were able to get some cards made in the middle of my car being in the repair shop. I used her SU Baroque Motifs stamp set. It actually is such a nice and versatile set. I mean hello- Christmas cards too!! Hmm, maybe I do need it before the new catalog comes out in January to tempt me.

Supplies- SU cardstock- Real Red, Handsome Hunter, Very Vanilla
SU- Ink- Handsome Hunter, Very vanilla- which I then embossed in gold as it didn't stand out as much as I had hoped it would.
Other- SU Brads
Stamps- SU- Baroque Motifs and All Year Cheer I (retired)

My 2nd entry. During the making of my first card I decided that the flowers definitely look like snowflakes as well, and so this card just totally came together.

SU- Stamps- Baroque Motifs, Warm Words
Other- Ribbon- SU retired. Brads- SU, glitter- stickles, Paper piercer, Circle punch 1 1/4,
